Richmond, VA – ECPI University is set to host nearly 200 high school students for a preparatory workshop in advance of this year’s FIRST Tech Challenge on Saturday, September 9 at its Richmond/Innsbrook campus, located at 4305 Cox Road in Glen Allen.
As lead title sponsor of the Virginia Championship, ECPI University is pleased to support FIRST Tech’s mission of inspiring young people to become science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills. The goal: to encourage innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
FIRST Tech Challenge teams are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas.
To help Richmond and Central Virginia students get ready for this year’s competition, ECPI University’s Richmond/Innsbrook campus will provide them with a series of workshops focused on basic principles of engineering, including Electronics, CAD, Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering.
Students are expected to begin arriving just before 8:00 am, with workshops continuing throughout the day until 4:00 pm. Media wishing to attend may contact ECPI Director of Marketing at 757.490.9090 or publicrelations@ecpi.edu.
