First of its Kind in Virginia, Designed to Meet Growing Shortage
Newport News, VA – ECPI University’s Newport News campus is now accepting applications for its new Paramedic (EMT) program, the only one of its kind in Virginia where students can earn their Associate of Applied Science in Emergency Medical Services in just 16 months through a year-round program. Existing EMTs can graduate in as little as 1 year.
The offering of this program comes at a critical time. “Virginia’s Office of Emergency Medical Services has just issued a report revealing a tremendous shortfall of EMS providers,” says ECPI University EMS Program Director Nicholas Klimenko. “There are about 1,000 unfilled positions throughout the state and simply not enough schools producing qualified applicants.”
In addition to coursework covering such areas as advanced life support and airway management/ventilation, ECPI University’s program includes an extensive structured 270 hour in-hospital clinical component with experienced preceptors at various medical centers and a field internship with a high performance urban EMS agency.
