ECPI Student Veterans Attend Hill Day

Five student veterans attending various ECPI University Virginia campuses had the unique opportunity to travel to Washington, DC for Hill Day in March.

Hill Day is an event where ECPI University students, faculty, and staff can engage with policymakers and advocate for higher education and career-focused learning. Typically, meetings are scheduled with elected officials and their staff to give ECPI representatives adequate time to share experiences, successes, and challenges related to higher education and career training.

This year, ECPI’s student veterans had the unique opportunity to talk about their military backgrounds,
the transition to civilian life, and their experiences at ECPI University as they prepare for their future careers.

“Our student veterans all have such great stories about their military careers and how they ended up attending
ECPI University,” said ECPI University Executive Director of Military and Veteran Education Bill Brown. “Having them share them with the Congressional members and their staffs gives us the opportunity to show the strength of our academics and programs so we are able to support all of our students for their education and beyond.”

At Hill Day, topics vary from year to year. In the past, ECPI representatives have advocated for students on a range of topics, such as access to affordable education, workforce needs, industry partnerships, and the value of career-focused programs in meeting the demands of the job market.

ECPI University’s involvement in Hill Day showcases a continued commitment to supporting educational
opportunities that prepare students for successful careers.

This year’s student team had a blast on the trip. “The Student Veterans all enjoyed the chance to see how Congress works, and to just be part of the day,” said Brown.
