Today we are featuring 2016 Criminal Justice graduate, Brittany Todd.

Brittany’s motivation for pursuing her bachelor’s degree was to carry on her family tradition of working in law and military, as she comes from a long line of personnel in these fields.

Initially hesitant to go back to school after a few negative experiences at other universities, Brittany found ECPI. She quickly became excited about this new journey of hers after visiting the campus, saying "Once I visited the campus and talked to a few of the students, I was completely sold."

Despite facing the challenge of working multiple jobs while attending ECPI full-time, Brittany was met with nonstop encouragement from her classmates and professors. She loved the hands-on approach that her professors took with their classes, including the virtual shooting range and crime scene set-ups.

Now, Brittany works as a Precinct Desk Officer for the Virginia Beach Police Department, where she enjoys helping citizens and law enforcement personnel with anything they need regarding city operations. She said, "This is one career that affords the chance to help at least one person a day. Many citizens come to me during some of the worst moments of their lives. I like knowing that I have the ability to assist them with overcoming their predicaments."

To current ECPI students, Brittany advises, "Attend classes, pay attention, and do the work. The Homeland Security program was extremely helpful in advancing my knowledge of law enforcement, emergency management, and diversity awareness. The information I learned prepared me for the extensive demands of my career. I will never regret my decision of choosing ECPI as my alma mater."

Congratulations, Brittany, on your success and well-deserved recognition.

And Brittany wanted to give a big thank you to her Criminal Justice professors Gustin, LaDuke, Dr. Michel, Yaeger, Sorenson, Innes, and De la Torre for their dedication and inspiring teaching.
