What is Electronics Systems Engineering Technology: Is this the Right Path for Me?

How to break into ESET
As a high school student, there are certain classes you can take to prepare yourself for a career as an electronics engineering technologist. These include algebra, trig, calculus, and physics. Of course, if this is where your interests lie, you are probably already studying these subjects. A course or two in drafting would help prepare you to produce technical drawings.
What qualities are essential for an electronic systems engineering technologist? In addition to math skills and an ability to concentrate, you will need communications skills such as writing, speaking, and interpersonal relations. Although you are a scientist, you won't be working in a vacuum and will need to communicate effectively with less technically-minded colleagues and customers.
Necessary qualifications
Most employers look for a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering technology or a related discipline. A specimen curriculum might include classes in electric circuits, semiconductors, circuit analysis, instrumentation and measurement, digital systems, and an introduction to computer networking.
After you've covered the basics, you might want to learn about robotics, motor drives, motor controllers, or programmable logic.
If you have your eye on senior positions, you might consider learning the business side of electronics engineering and take classes in applied project management, introduction to business, and/or fundamentals of customer service. Finally, for a fully rounded education, you would be expected to take classes in economics, arts and sciences, culture and diversity, and principles of communication.
