Technology Jobs in Virginia: Future Looks Bright for Those with Skills!
ECPI University Can Help You Gain Skills Needed for In-Demand Jobs
With more than 4,100 new jobs added in 2016, Virginia’s tech industry is thriving. Currently, there are nearly 300,000 people working in the Commonwealth’s technology sector. There’s just one problem: According to a recent report from Inside Business, employers in the old dominion still had 32,579 technology job openings listed during the last three months of the year.
Right now, there are roughly 21,000 technology businesses throughout Virginia representing nearly eight percent of the state’s workforce and more than $51 billion of the state’s economy. According to a recently-released report by CompTIA, those numbers place Virginia sixth in the nation for tech industry employment, but many business and state leaders believe Virginia can move further up that list.
“High-tech industries such as cybersecurity, biomedical, software development and computer analysis have great potential in Hampton Roads,” says Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Bryan Stephens in the Inside Business article. “And now is the time to act as we look for ways to take advantage of the intercontinental optic cables coming to our region later this year.
“This, if properly leveraged and coupled with all our other amazing resources, provides us with a unique opportunity to be the technology industry center of gravity for the commonwealth,” Stephens said.
The CompTIA report identifies several areas within the tech sector that are poised for rapid growth, including cloud-based services, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and work related to the internet of things.
