Earn an Engineering Technology Degree at ECPI University and be Ready to Work in Advanced Manufacturing Before it Opens

A New Jersey-based plastic products manufacturer has announced plans to open a new production facility in Alexander County, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte. According to a news report in the Charlotte Business Journal, Borealis Compounds Inc. plans to invest $15 million dollars to establish operations in a shell building at the Alexander Industrial Park.

Alexander Railroad developed the building and its company president, Ben Zachary, says his team set high standards for the company that would occupy the space.

“We wanted a clean manufacturer, we wanted a good corporate citizen, we wanted a significant bump in the tax base for an industry, we want well-paying jobs, and we wanted a rail user,” said Zachary in the news report.

A producer of plastic pellets from which fenders, dashboards and grills are made, Borealis Compounds currently supplies some of the leading automakers in the world, including General Motors, Ford, BMW, Volkswagen, and Volvo. To maintain its competitive advantage, the company – like most successful manufacturers – relies on advanced automation and robotics to maintain efficiency and contain costs. To work in these kind of facilities, workers must possess a very specific set of skills in such areas as electronics, mechanical engineering technology, and computer and information science.

If you’re a critical thinker who likes technology, this might be a field worth exploring. Believe it or not, you could earn a degree from ECPI University at its nearby Charlotte campus before the Borealis Compounds manufacturing facility even opens.
