Nearby ECPI University Offers Programs to Supply Needed Skilled Professionals

For many years, the Fareva manufacturing plant in eastern Henrico County, right outside of Richmond, Virginia's capitol city, has been producing products most of us know very well – Robitussin, Dimetapp, Preparation H, and ChapStick lip balm, to name a few. Now, the company is expanding, opening up a new production line to make aerosol ingredients for products such as dry shampoo and spray-on sunscreen.

The family-owned, French manufacturer – one of the world’s largest contract producers of household, cosmetic, industrial and pharmaceutical products – plans to invest approximately $40 million to expand its Richmond-area plant. The new production line will require between 80 and 100 new employees, bringing the total workforce to about 700 people.

In a news report by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Bernard Fraisse, president and owner of the company, said he is considering investing an additional $15 million to $20 million to add even more aerosols production, which would create another 150 jobs. The company currently has 35 production sites worldwide, more than $1.5 billion in revenue, and a workforce of nearly 10,000.

Like most of today’s manufacturing jobs, the positions being offered by Fareva require a high degree of skill, the kind that you can learn at ECPI University. In the Richmond area, ECPI University has two locations – Innsbrook and Moorefield – both of which offer programs in Electronics Engineering Technology and Mechatronics.

The Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) program can prepare graduates with the knowledge and understanding required for a future in a wide range of paths, including:

  • Automation and Manufacturing
  • Computer Industry
  • Aerospace Industry

Targeted coursework includes:

  • Analog and Digital Electronics and Communications
  • Data Acquisition and Control Systems
  • Circuits and Semiconductors

  • Applied Mechanics
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics
  • Testing and Measuring Instruments
  • Materials Science

Today’s advanced manufacturing environment is much different from years past. In the old days, factories were hot and dirty. The work was boring and repetitive. No more. Today, modern manufacturing facilities look more like laboratories. They are clean and the people who work there are highly-skilled.

Would you like to become one of these skilled professionals? It may not take as long as you think. The EET and Mechatronics programs offered at the ECPI University’s Richmond-area locations are offered in a year-round, accelerated format, which means you can earn your Bachelor’s degree in just 2.5 years!
