Master of Science in Nursing Program at ECPI University Earns CCNE Accreditation
Designation Signifies Highest Standard for Program Quality and Student Success
Less than two years after it launched its new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree program, ECPI University has now received full accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). This designation demonstrates that the ECPI University’s College of Nursing has met the highest standards of academic quality and benchmarks for student success.
The CCNE is an autonomous accrediting agency, contributing to the improvement of the public's health, ensuring the quality and integrity of baccalaureate, graduate, and residency programs in nursing. The Commission serves the public interest by assessing and identifying programs that engage in effective educational practices.
“The process of accreditation is entirely voluntary and programs seek accreditation to demonstrate to the public that the nursing program is well designed, well managed, and provides a solid nursing education to its graduates,” says Dr. Deborah Clark, MSN Nurse Administrator at ECPI University. “The process takes about two years from application, which includes hosting an on-site visit, and waiting for the Board of Commissioner’s final determination.”
There are four standards evaluated during a CCNE site visit. The first is program quality that examines the mission, goal, and expected program outcomes; the professional nursing standards and guidelines used to construct the program; the policies of the institution and nursing program; and faculty and staff involvement in governance of the program.
The second is program quality in relation to institutional commitment and resources. Areas examined within this standard include the fiscal and physical resources of the program, academic support services, faculty, preceptors, and faculty outcomes.
The next one is program quality in relation to curriculum and teaching-learning processes. Here, the MSN curriculum and the professional standards used to develop the curriculum are examined in detail including the structure, student learning outcomes, teaching-learning practices, and how student performance is evaluated. The final portion focuses on program effectiveness and the assessment and achievement of our program outcomes.
ECPI University’s Master of Science in Nursing program encompasses two distinct and high-demand concentrations: Health Systems Leadership and Nursing Education. The concentrations are guided by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the National League for Nursing’s Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) competencies throughout the curriculum.
Graduates who complete the Health Systems Leadership concentration can pursue a range of career tracks including:
- Nurse Manager
- Program Manager
- Quality Improvement Director
- Patient Safety Director
- Nurse Director or equivalent
Graduates who complete the Nursing Education concentration can pursue employment as a:
- Clinical Nurse Educator
- Patient Educator
- Director of Professional Practice
- Nursing Faculty Member at the practical, associate or bachelor degree levels
- Director of Staff Development
