Manufacturing Company Expanding in Spartanburg County, SC
New Jobs Ideal for ECPI University Mechatronics/EET Graduates
Italian manufacturing company Ritrama, has announced plans to build a new $85 million facility in Spartanburg County, creating approximately 150 new jobs which will require engineering technology skills. Ritrama is a family-owned international group of companies that produces pressure-sensitive adhesive roll materials. It manufactures a full line of products for the prime, beverage, health and beauty, graphics, and industrial markets, including traditional and specialty with print enhancing topcoats, engineered solvent and water-based adhesives, and a full range of paper liners.
The company’s new 350,000 square-foot plant in the Spartanburg County town of Moore, South Carolina will be the its most modern facility worldwide, utilizing advanced robotics and an automated storage and retrieval system for the company’s warehousing needs.
“Manufacturing companies continue to have a large role in our state’s economy, and it is always gratifying to see one establish its presence in South Carolina,” said South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt in a news release issued by the South Carolina Department of Commerce. “Ritrama’s decision to build its first South Carolina facility in Spartanburg County is yet another sign that our state provides a strong foundation for success.”
To successfully attract companies like Ritrama, localities need a reliable supply of trained workers. Institutions like ECPI University are one reason why South Carolina maintains a competitive advantage. With three campuses throughout the state, it produces graduates with work-ready skills.
Near Spartanburg County, there’s an ECPI University campus just a short distance away in Greenville which offers programs in Mechatronics and Electronics Engineering Technology (EET). The EET program can prepare graduates to:
- Use testing and measuring instruments to acquire data, analyze problems, and design a system or process
- Work with automated control systems
- Identify, analyze and solve technical problems
- Analyze and implement systems containing hardware and software components
- Manage engineering technology projects
The Mechatronics program is designed to develop professionals who have knowledge in all three facets of manufacturing – computer information science, mechanical engineering, and electronic engineering technology. In addition to some of the EET curriculum, this program covers such areas as:
- Applied Mechanics
- Programmable Controllers
- Hydraulics and Pneumatics
- Computer Hardware and Software
- Materials Science
- Computer Programming Networks
