According to a 2017 report by the National Foundation for American Policy, six out of the top ten US tech companies were among the top employers for approved H-B visa applications: Amazon, Google, Intel and Microsoft. Facebook and Apple were 14th and 15th on the list. Demand is high in the United States for highly skilled talent in technology industries.

A second NFAP report revealed that international students pursuing graduate degrees in technical disciplines were essential to filling jobs in electrical engineering and computer science. Without them, the number of graduates in these fields would be insufficient to meet demand in view of the size of the American economy.
