HVAC Manufacturer Expanding Columbia, SC Plant with New Jobs
ECPI University Ready to Provide Skilled Workers
HVAC manufacturer Trane has announced it will invest nearly $100 million to expand its Columbia, South Carolina production facility, creating 700 new jobs, more than double the current workforce. According to an article published by the Columbia Regional Business Report, hiring for the new positions should begin in 2018 as construction nears completion.
“Our workforce has shown that it’s the best in the world, and announcements like this one continue to boost South Carolina’s reputation on the global stage as a state that can get any job done,” South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said. South Carolina Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt added: ““South Carolina’s advanced manufacturing industry has put our state on the map, and this latest expansion by an industry leader like Trane is a testament to our success.”
Yes, South Carolina has been very successful developing a skilled workforce that accommodates the needs of manufacturers. It’s been a collaborative effort in which ECPI University continues to play a significant role. At all three of our South Carolina campuses, we offer programs specifically designed to meet the needs of advanced manufacturing.
At our Columbia campus, we offer an Associate’s degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET). Today’s manufacturing facilities rely heavily on robotics and automated systems in order to produce materials and products efficiently and at lightning speed. Because these systems are heavily reliant on electronics, EET technicians are essential and keep operations running at optimum levels.
When ECPI University first developed its EET program many years ago, faculty and curriculum designers consulted with manufacturing professionals to make sure it met the needs of employers. In fact, we do this for every program we offer. To this day, we still meet with industry professionals twice yearly to ensure our programs are current and relevant.
So, what exactly will can you learn by enrolling in our EET program? For starters, you can develop skills in:
- Data Acquisition and Control Systems
- Digital Electronics
- Computer Hardware
- Computer Network Fundamentals
Most important, your classroom learning is supported with hands-on instruction using the same kind of technology commonly found in the workplace. Specifically, you have the opportunity to:
- Identify, analyze and solve technical problems
- Use testing and measuring instruments to acquire data
- Analyze and implement systems containing hardware and software components
If you’re interested, consider this: Trane still has to add 680,000 square feet to its Columbia facility and will not begin hiring until next year. They plan to add those 700 jobs over a three-year period. If you start your program today, you could be eligible to compete for one of those jobs.
How is that possible? Because ECPI University has a year-round schedule, no wasted time with long holiday or summer breaks. Through our accelerated program, you could earn your Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology in as little as 2.5 years.
