ECPI University Online EET Student Lands Dream Job with Mercedes-Benz
Just four years ago, Gary Hart was preparing for a second tour in Iraq. Having been there before, he knew things would be busy at some points, but there would also be times when there was simply nothing to do. Since the Army was offering tuition assistance, he decided to use his spare time to start working on his degree.
He researched a quite a few online schools, but soon determined that ECPI University was the best choice and enrolled in the online Electronics Engineering Technology degree program. “Being that I was a RADAR technician, I was already working with electronics and had a good understanding of it all,” says Gary.
After leaving the Army, Gary continued his studies and as he neared completion of his Associate degree, he began working closely with ECPI University’s Career Services Department. “I knew from the start that I was working with a very determined, goal-oriented person,” says Career Services Advisor Rae Sewell.
Ms. Sewell helped Gary land interviews with several well-known employers, but one stood out: Mercedes-Benz USA. Gary began working for the company in February and is still a student at ECPI University, now pursuing his Bachelor’s degree.
“Ms. Sewell really helped me prepare for the job search,” says Gary who is now working on the Mercedes-Benz maintenance team which is responsible for maintaining the company’s automated manufacturing robots. “It’s a great company, has outstanding benefits and wages, and I am working in a position that is directly related to my degree. I couldn’t be happier!”
Ms. Sewell says she was very impressed with Gary’s ability to apply techniques taught in the orientation course. Says Sewell, “Helping him achieve his goals has been tremendously rewarding, even more so because I was able to help another veteran transition into the civilian world.”
