Corning Optical Communications has announced plans to add 205 new positions over the next five years at its Winston-Salem and Hickory, North Carolina facilities. According to a recent news report in The News & Observer, the company had considered expanding in China and Mexico. No doubt, a determining factor was finding the right employees. A producer of fiber optic cable, Corning requires skilled workers and North Carolina is emerging as a leading state for highly-skilled professionals.
With campuses in Charlotte, Greensboro, and Raleigh, ECPI University is playing an essential role in developing that highly-skilled workforce. In fact, every program we offer is created with a specific career in mind. For career paths like the ones found with employers like Corning, ECPI University offers programs geared toward advanced manufacturing, namely Electronics Engineering Technology and Mechatronics.
ECPI University’s Electronics Engineering Technology (EET) program is designed for those who want to specialize in such areas as circuits, semiconductors, and microcontrollers. People who are employed in this field work with:

Graduates with skillsets aligned with these technologies can find themselves competing for jobs that pay far more than the average wage.
