ECPI University's Fall Career Fair took place on Wednesday, September 18, 2019. Employers from a variety of fields took over two floors of the Virginia Beach building to meet and talk with ECPI University students and alumni. Job seekers, dressed in business attire and carrying their resumes, had the opportunity to connect with different businesses and agencies and see if they were a good fit for the positions offered.

When it comes to looking for a candidate at the Virginia Beach Sherriff's Office, they look first for personal integrity and someone who is willing to work hard in this demanding field. Candidates who really catch their eye are those with a drive to better themselves and always seek ways to improve. Finally, they said they are looking for someone who wants to join a big family!
Hard Skills Are Vital for Technical Positions
Military Sealift Command (MSC), a transportation provider that works with the US military and other government agencies, look for hard skills in their applicants. They were focused on recruiting those with experience and education in mechanical engineering technology, information technology, and computer science.

InMotion Hosting representative Erica Nelson said she is definitely looking for a customer focus mindset from possible candidates. Being able to troubleshoot and have previous Linux experience is a plus. The company currently has openings in the technical support center and are looking for individuals with IT education and training.

Plasser American, represented by Michelle S. Moss, was delighted to be at the career fair as ECPI University offered several programs with the mechanical and technical skills her company is looking for. She wanted to speak to mechanically-inclined candidates interested in the railroad.
Virginia Beach Public Schools Says: Be Prepared for your Interview
Lori Hill, a representative of the Virginia Beach Public School System, advised job seekers not to be afraid of entry-level work and always to prepare for their interviews. She added the soft skills were highly important to her when she talks to candidates. The school system is currently looking for network technicians, among other technical roles to keep all of the schools running smoothly.
