3 of the Most Influential People in Hospitality Management
Take a look at the hospitality industry and you’ll soon discover that its people really are the heart and soul of the business. While other industries may claim the same thing, the hospitality industry truly does rely on the unique attributes of its people for success.
As with other sectors, hospitality management is in a transition phase from an older management group to a younger generation of leaders. Its success lies in making a smooth transition, and the next generation of leadership building on the success of their predecessors.
While the industry is still fairly conservative, the internet has forced it to become more contemporary and innovative. The following individuals represent some of the finest minds and leaders in the hospitality industry. They are innovators and creative individuals who have left their mark on the industry and will leave it better than they found it.
Jennifer Hsieh,
Vice President, Insight, Strategy & Innovation at Marriott International
Since joining the company in 2009, Jennifer has been driven to change the way customers experience Marriott’s hotels and resorts. One of her main focuses has been reinventing the meeting experience, which has provided a solid revenue stream for the company for many years. Most notably, she has created more intimate and informal non-traditional meeting spaces. Following extensive customer research, she is also credited with creating an environment that is more responsive to customer demands.
Jonathan M. Tisch,
Office of the President, Chairman, Loews Hotels
Mr. Tisch is a recognized champion of the travel and tourism industry. He received the hotel industry’s “Person of the Year” award in 2009 and has expanded the Loews Hotel holdings to 23 luxury properties from San Francisco to New York.
Niki Leondakis,
CEO of Commune Hotels and Resorts
One of the few women to lead a major hotel, Ms. Leondakis is charged with the growth and extension of Commune Hotel and Resort’s brand, and has been focusing on understanding rapidly-changing guest travel habits and attitudes. She believes the industry is moving towards a personalized experience where guests pay for the amenities and services they want, rather than general services.
Hospitality management is an ever-changing field, as much art as science. Keeping pace with the demands of weary travelers and the challenges associated with running a property make hospitality management one of the most exciting fields available.
